KGBV scheme was launched in 2004. KGBV is a residential girls’ secondary school run by the government for the weaker sections. It was then integrated with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (now Samagra Shiksha) program to provide education to girls belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minority communities and families below the poverty line.
