Economically Backward classes (EBCs) students have some reason to cheer about, various schemes are being implemented by the government to provide financial assistance for students belonging to this category. These schemes are applicable cross the country. Centrally-sponsored schemes for the general category students like Dr. Ambedkar Post-Matric Scholarship and Dr. Ambedkar Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Educational Loan for Overseas Studies are being implemented, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment said in a statement.
These schemes are being implemented for the Economically Backward Class students studying at post-matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education.
The scholarships will be open to Indian nationals belonging to General Category (Other than Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Classes) with total income from all sources of the employed candidate or his/her parents/guardians in case of unemployed candidate should not exceed Rs 1 lakh per annum, the statement said.
Dr. Ambedkar Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Educational Loan for Overseas Studies for OBCs/EBCs” is being implemented with the objective to award interest subsidy to meritorious EBC students with the objective of providing them better opportunities for higher education in abroad and enhance their employability.
To avail of this scheme, the total income from all sources of the employed candidate or his/her parents/guardians in case of unemployed candidate should not exceed Rs 2.50 lakh per annum.
From Financial Year 2018-19, the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC) has included a person with annual family income of less than Rs 1 lakh as Economically Backward Classes (EBCs) in its target group to provide them benefit of concessional loan and training for skill development to upgrade their technical and entrepreneurial skills.
