Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme: This scheme is the combination of two schemes — Prime Minister’s Rural Employment Generation and Rojgar Yojana Programme — to provide employment to traditional and prospective artisans, rural and urban unemployed youth. Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme is the credit-linked subsidy programme that aims to generate employment opportunities through establishment of micro enterprises in rural and urban areas. The scheme facilitates participation of financial institutions for higher credit flow into micro sectors.

PRIME MINISTER’S EMPLOYMENT GENERATION PROGRAMME ELIGIBILITY
Anyone who has attained the age of 18 years is eligible for the scheme. The candidates have to be minimum VIII standard pass for projects above Rs 10 lakh in the manufacturing sector and above Rs 5 lakh in the business or service sector to be eligible for the scheme. Under the scheme, only new projects are considered for sanction.

Self Help Groups belonging to BPL which have not availed of benefits under any other scheme, institutions registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860; Production Co-operative Societies, and Charitable Trusts are also eligible for this scheme.

Businesses or manufacturing units which have already availed of the benefits under PMRY, REGP or any other scheme of central government or any state government are not eligible for the scheme.

PRIME MINISTER’S EMPLOYMENT GENERATION PROGRAMME BENEFITS

The maximum cost of the project under manufacturing sector is Rs. 25 lakh and Rs.10 lakh under business/service sector. Per capita investment should not exceed Rs 1 lakh in plain areas and Rs 1.50 lakhs in hilly areas. The candidates who want to avail the credit, should have their own contribution of 5 percent to 10 percent of the project cost.
General category beneficiaries can avail of margin money subsidy of 25 percent of the project cost in rural areas and 15 percent in urban areas. For beneficiaries belonging to special categories such as scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, women, and the margin money subsidy is 35 percent in rural areas and 25 percent in urban areas.
