Scholarships for girls: The Ministry of Human Resource Development is implementing ‘National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE)’ to reduce the dropouts and to promote the enrolment of girl child in secondary schools up to the 18 years of age. The scholarship scheme is covered under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). On enrolment in class IX, an amount of Rs 3000 is deposited in the name of unmarried girls as fixed deposit. They can withdraw the amount along with interest on reaching 18 years of age and passing class 10 examination.
Scholarships for girls: Whom the scheme covers:
(i) Girl childs belonging to SC/ST who pass class VIII
(ii) Girls who pass class VIII examination from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (irrespective of whether they belong to SC/ ST) and enroll in class IX in State/ UT Government, Government-aided and Local Body schools.
The CBSE is also implementing Merit Scholarship schemes for single girl child. It provides Rs.500 per month to the single girl childs who are pursuing studies in class XI & XII and have passed the CBSE class Class 10 exam with 60 percent marks or 6.2 CGPA.
Scholarships for girls: Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for college and university students started in 2008. Under this scheme, financial assistance provided to meritorious students whose family income is less than Rs.8 lakhs per annum for pursuing higher studies. Under this scheme, the HRD Ministry provides 82,000 fresh scholarships every year, of which 50 percent is earmarked for girls.
Scholarships for girls: UGC is implementing Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child since 2006 for providing financial assistance to selected students for pursuing Post-Graduation in India. Besides this, UGC is also implementing the schemes
1. Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Fellowship for Research in Social Sciences.
2. Post-Doctoral fellowship for women for providing financial assistance to selected candidates for pursuing research / higher research in universities, institutes and colleges in India.
Scholarships for girls: AICTE is implementing “Pragati Scholarship Scheme for Girls Student” to provide assistance for advancement of girl’s participation in technical education. Under the scheme, 4000 scholarships are granted annually on “one girl, per family” basis. The family income should not be more than Rs 6 lakhs per annum. The candidates should have been admitted to 1st year of the Degree or Diploma programme in any of the AICTE approved institute.
The candidates who have been selected on merit in qualifying examination to pursue technical education. Tuition Fee of Rs 30,000 or at actual, whichever is less and Rs 2,000 per month for 10 months as incidentals each year is provided under the scheme.
